Selfie Week 1

"Side by Side"

Quote 1:  In the final scenes, alone, she locks eyes with the camera. She finds pleasure, and comfort, with herself.

  • She recognizes her value and self-worth. Her past experiences have fostered her mental and phyical health. She’s developed confidence by knowing her true self allowing her to find pleasure and comfort with just being herself.

Quote 2: Viewers may not be able to see the world outside of the kitchen’s walls, but her characters are trying to navigate it all the same.

  • As a viewer looking at a photograph we can only interpret the image to an extent. We are only able to observe the image within its frame but not beyond that. We can only interpret the meaning or story behind a photograph but not its true context from an outside view.

Quote 1: Photographs really are experience captured, and the camera is the ideal arm of consciousness in its acquisitive mood.

    • Photographed images capture a moment in time that signifies the importance the image holds. A digital camera or a phone camera is the perfect tool to use when capturing any scene at an instant. Photographs can transmit so many different emotions and feelings to each individual.

Quote 2: Although there is a sense in which the camera does indeed capture reality, not just interpret it, photographs are as much an interpretation of the world as paintings and drawings are.

    • Photographs are meant to tell us a story, memory, a sense of the moment just like paintings and drawings do. There is always a story behind every photograph, painting and drawing whether it's a happy, sad, or emotional one. Capturing special moments drives the need to take a photo, paint and draw.
