Selfie Week 1

“That Guy”

Carrie Mae Weems, The Kitchen Table Series, 1990

Susan Sontag excerpt from “on photography’

Quotes: “To collect photographs is to collect the world”

“There is an aggression implicit in every use of the camera”

Response: From reading “On Photography’ by Susan Sontag, I feel like no one will be able to see the whole world and its value without photographs. Everyone doesn't get the chance to travel the planet and see everything . Major historic events that happened a long time ago couldn’t be expressed or visually recorded without the POV (Point Of View) from a set of lenses. How much would we be able to see without photographs?

Revisiting Carrie Mae Weem’s Landmark “Kitchen Table Series” by Jacqui Palumbo

Quotes: “I think (the series is) important in relationship black experience, but it’s not about race.”

“I knew what it meant for me, but I didn’t know what it would mean historically.”

Response: Revisiting Carrie Mae Weem’s Landmark “Kitchen Table Series”  by Jacqui Palumbo, was basically showing how photographs could leave a legacy and have a major impact on a person’s life. Even thoughCarrie Mae was ablack woman, she was not creating her art for just black people but all races. Carrie Mae’s work has so much volume and is indeed life changing.
