Week 2 Selfie

Rough Times

The Glow Up

The Cindy Sherman Effect

“Artistic Personae can not only be instantly created but also instantly animated and disseminated.”

“I think I was apart of a movement a generation, and maybe the most popular one of that movement at the time but it probably would have happen without me.”

“A new contract needs to be written for her work, however. We come to it for the disbelief to marvel, at how a face can be so manipulated and somehow still be legible, even familiar.”

“Don’t forget about me!” It was easy to erase myself and put on somebody face and say ‘maybe how you guys will remember me, or ‘how about this face or that character?”

Cindy Sherman shifted the whole agenda how people could express themselves through photography and art. Based off her vision or feeling, she decided what she wanted to be viewed as through a series of self portraits she took with different styles included a lot of make up, mixture of different hairstyles, and a variety of clothing from all ranges. She was more hands on when she first started since the media was not a thing and photoshop was not around. Now the whole world post selfies on social media platforms, such as instagram, to display a certain image of their self. Everyone would like to be viewed a certain way so they would do whatever they can to push their own self agenda. The two images above is me when I was in the 6th grade and me currently. When I was younger I had a lot of insecurities with the way I looked, me being super skinny, not having the most trendy clothing, just feeling out of place. The other picture is more so of a glow up for me. My hair line not crooked, hair is nice, tattoos, skin clear. I could purchase any attire, get any enhancements done, etc. I feel way more comfortable now in displaying myself because I have control on what I want to look like. This is definitely the Cindy Sherman Effect.
